The inside story
Construction of the Málaga Cathedral, also known as the Catedral de la Encarnación, began in the 16th century. Although it still remains technically unfinished today as its south tower is incomplete, giving it the nickname "La Manquita" (one-armed), the cathedral was primarily completed in the 18th century. It is built on the same ground that held Málaga's central mosque for eight centuries during its Muslim domination. Inside, you will find 42 impressive sculptures by Ortiz de Vargas, Pedro de Mena and Giuseppe Micael Alfaro. Furthermore, the stunning 18th century organ will be sure to catch your eye with its 4,000 pipes.
