The baslica is world-known especially for being the home of The Last Supper, the iconic painting by Leonardo da Vinci. In the beginning, the basilica was built on the order of Francesco I Sforza, and it was completed in 1497 and at the request of Ludovico il Moro, destined to become the mausoleum of the Sforza family. Nowadays Santa Maria delle Grazie is an UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of Milan’s finest examples of Renaissance and Gothic architecture.
