What to expect

Be prepared to explore 2000 years of history in only two hours! Discover the past and present of one charming place in a pleasant walking tour in the old city of Augsburg. Augsburg is Germany’s third oldest city and famous for being home of the Fugger family, the German “Medici’s” and one of the wealthiest families in history. Culturally, it is famous as the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s father, as well as the prolific writer Berthold Brecht.

The adventure starts at Fuggerei, where you can admire the oldest social settlement in the world history which was founded by one of the richest families in the world. From this point, you will head into the old city and begin by visiting the birthplace of the worldwide acclaimed artist Berthold Brecht. You continue the walk until we reach the Butcher’s Guild, built by Elias Holl, the master architect who designed the most important buildings during Augsburg's golden age, the 17th century. You will stop at the St. Peter am Perlach Church to take a look at the painting of Mary untie of knots. Get a look at the Town hall, the first building in the world to have 6 floors.

There will be time to learn more about the Weaver’s Guild, important for the trade of textiles, the place that put Augsburg on the map. Here, you can admire the paintings adorning the Weaver’s Guild’s outside walls and get a glimpse of Augsburg's history. You continue to the Zeughaus, the Damenhof, the lady's courtyard and the Fuggerhaus, home of the Fugger family and where Martin Luther was interrogated by the Pope’s envoy about his beliefs. Next stop is the Schaezler Palais, a place which survived the Second World War without a scratch. Its ballroom is the best conserved in Germany and host many exhibitions.
