Think Gran Canaria is all about beaches? Think again. We'll leave the coast behind and head into the mountains on this full-day 4x4 adventure, following tracks that once connected some of the island's most isolated communities. As you travel through the Santa Lucía Ravine, you'll see a side of the island few visitors get to see, shaped by trade, farming and the communities that called these mountains home.
The tour begins with a drive through the ravine before stopping at Sorrueda Viewpoint, where views stretch across volcanic peaks. Next up is the Fortress of Ansite, one of Gran Canaria's top historical sites, linked to the island's indigenous people and the final years before the Castilian conquest. Fancy a wander around a traditional village and a few more views? Santa Lucía village and Tunte Viewpoint are next. Then, it's on to Sabores del Sol Ecological Farm. Through guided walks, tastings of produce grown on the estate and demonstrations of traditional farming techniques, you'll learn how farming families lived from the land, growing seasonal crops and exchanging goods with neighbouring villages. What we call sustainability today was simply a way of life here. This trip offers a deeper understanding of Gran Canaria's rural traditions and the people who shaped them.
The day wraps up with spectacular viewpoints and free time in the picturesque Fataga, also known as the Valley of a Thousand Palms. With its whitewashed houses, cobbled streets, and timeless Canarian charm, where it's easy to see how it got its name. You'll have time to look around or find a local spot for lunch, if you fancy it.
