This ticket grants you access to Palazzo Madama, a historic palace that now houses the Museo Civico d'Arte Antica, Turin's Municipal Museum of Ancient Art. Your experience combines two aspects – the history of the building itself and the extensive art collections it contains. The visit spans four floors, taking you on a chronological journey through centuries of artistic development.
In the basement level, built upon Roman foundations, you'll discover the Lapidario Medievale (medieval stonework collection) featuring stone sculptures and jewellery. The ground floor primarily showcases the fifteenth-century castle and art from the Middle Ages and Renaissance periods. Within the treasure tower, you'll have the opportunity to view the celebrated Portrait of a Man by Antonello da Messina. Ascending to the first floor, you'll enter the ornate Baroque rooms displaying seventeenth and eighteenth-century art, including paintings and furniture crafted by Pifetti and Prunotto, all presented in lavishly decorated settings. The second floor houses a collection of decorative arts spanning various periods — ceramics, ivories, jewellery, textiles, glasswork and numerous other crafts.
This museum offers insight into the cultural and artistic preferences of this Alpine frontier region, governed for six centuries by the Savoy dynasty. The vast collections were initially assembled as reference models for Piedmontese craftsmen and now constitute one of Italy's most significant collections of applied arts.
