Your tour will start with a visit to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia, that is over 3000 years old! See the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and the Jvari monastery dating from the 6th century. Admire the enormous cedar tree which grew where Christ’s robe was buried.
Next you will drive north towards the Northern Caucasus along the well-known Georgian Military Road to visit Ananuri, a 17th century architectural complex. This castle was the seat of Dukes during the feudal dynasty which ruled the area from the 13th century and a scene of numerous battles. Continue on an exciting drive from Gudauri along the Terek River to Kazbegi – the main town in the region.
From Kazbegi ride in 4 WD vehicles through beautiful valleys and woods reaching the Gergeti Trinity church located at 2170m. In good weather you can see one of the highest glaciers in the Caucasus – the mountain Kazbegi at 5047m.
