What to expect

The Ecomusée d'Alsace is the largest open-air museum in France. During your visit, you will discover an authentic Alsatian village during the Christmas period as it existed at the beginning of the 20th century.

You will discover the Alsatian traditions of Advent and Christmas of yesteryear. Family objects, the smell of the hearth and the green branches of the Christmas tree, stars and other symbolic forms, the warmth of the soft lights... will awaken all your senses and your imagination!

Here, it is time for the enchantment of an enchanting decoration that takes you into another world, another time. The streets are dressed in bright and vegetal ornaments, decorated Christmas tree garlands surround you, and every corner is an opportunity to dream and admire white wooden sculptures, moving and sound elements...

Every day the museum is open - Schlierbach House
Who can resist the face of the teddy bear, king of toys, a friend of children, the confidant of all sorrows and happiness? Let yourself be amazed by this exhibition of old bears with mischievous and tender scenes: the bakery bears, the mechanics bears, the bear infirmary...

A story of a Christmas tree
Every day the museum is open - Hagenbach House
A symbol of Christmas par excellence, the decorated Christmas tree illuminates homes during the holidays, delighting the eyes of young and old alike. However, if it is now adorned with a thousand colors and ornaments, it has not always been so! Through the exhibition dedicated to him, come and discover the history of the Christmas tree and its decorations over the centuries!

  • The Écomusée d'Alsace will probably not display in your GPS! To avoid getting lost in Ungersheim, you are advised to enter the museum's GPS coordinates directly: 47°51'7,4''N ; 7°17'6''E
  • From Mulhouse train station on Saturdays Sundays and public holidays, you could take the Solea Shuttle: Leaves Mulhouse train station at 10.15, arrives at the Écomusée d'Alsace at 10.45 and at 11.00 at the Parc du Petit Prince | Return trip leaves the Parc du Petit Prince at 17.30 and the Écomusée d'Alsace at 17.45, arrives at Mulhouse train station at 18.15.
What to remember
  • The printed voucher is compulsory
  • The Écomusée d'Alsace has 2 restaurants – La Taverne and the Auberge d’Hégenheim restaurants serve regional and seasonal specialties and a bakery. If you want a picnic, there are several areas set aside for your use on the museum grounds.
  • The museum is a 10 ha large place, and you will probably need at least half a day to go round the whole of the museum. You can also spend all day there as there are always events and activities from morning through to evening.
  • Disabled visitors are welcome to bring their wheelchairs into the museum. Some of the buildings, however, do not have disabled access, while the roads and paths within the museum are gravel-covered.
