Lelystad is the capital city in the province of Flevoland and is the youngest province of the Netherlands, established in 1986. This little Dutch town is surrounded by the crystal clear waters of two lakes, IJsselmeer and Markermeer, offering no shortage of water activities for sports enthusiasts.
In town, take a research journey into the cultural heritage of Flevoland at Nieuw Land Erfgoedcentrum Museum. Visit the Bataviawerf shipyard to see a reproduction of the Batavia, a ship that belonged to the Dutch East India Company. Or spend the day shopping at the Bataviastad shopping center with over 100 shops, pubs and restaurants.
