Konavle district is an area of natural beauties and great contrasts. The central part of it is the rich and fruitful Konavle field, which is surrounded by hills to the north and the Adriatic Sea to the South. This Tour is imagined as journey through the magical Dubrovnik countryside. You will be introduced to history and to the natural beauties of the area, while tasting tradional local dishes accompanied with amazing local wines.
Cavtat is a town which has been proclaimed as the most beautiful small town on the Croatian coast. As you will visit it in early morning, you will have a coffee in one of local coffee shops just nearby the sea, enjoying the view and summer breeze. While in Cavtat, you can also visit visit the Racic Family Mausoleum or the Vlaho Bukovac Gallery. Vlaho Bukovac has been an important figure in the Croatian art scene of the 19th century.
You will be introduced to the long and rich history of this area with a visit to the Konavle Heritage Museum, an institution that preserves traditional ways of life, handcrafts and costumes.
You will then visit Sokol Tower, a fortress of the Dubrovnik Republic, strategically built in the 14th century at the border with the Ottoman Empire. It is situated in the village of Dunave on an inaccessible, 25 meter high rock, built to protect the Konavle district from hinterland attacks. This is a viewpoint from where you are going to be able to shoot some breathtaking photos of the whole area.
As Konavle is in a wine production region, it would be a pity not to taste local wines and learn a bit about them. That is why you will visit a local producer who is going to show you some of his hidden treasures.
You are going to visit Ljuta River, a beautiful small river and a natural attraction, where you will feel as if you were in a fairy-tale.
Finally you will also stop at the Stone Mill in Cilipi for lunch. You will meet the owner, who will offer you local brandies as aperitif. Then you will finally be ready for the traditional menu and dishes prepared with only local ingredients. And most important, you will be drinking as much house-wine as you want (included in the price).
