What to expect

Your first stop will be the Bahai Temple. Also called the Lotus Temple, it is designed by the Iranian Canadian architect, Fariburz Sahba in 1986, it has 27 immaculate white-marble petals. The Bahai philosophy revolves around universal peace and the elimination of prejudice. Adherents of all faiths may pray or meditate silently here, according to their own religion. Your next destination is Qutub Minar, which is a part of the Qutab complex – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built and restored in phases largely by Qutab-ud-din Aibak, Iltutmish and Feroze Shah Tughlaq, this 73-metre tall minaret is one of the grandest structures in the country. The Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, India’s first mosque, is located at the base of the minaret.

Then, you will go to Dilli Haat, an open-air food plaza with food stalls that represent each state of India, offering a complete variety of tastes from across India. Unlike traditional weekly markets, the Dilli Haat is permanent. Products offered, include rosewood and sandalwood carvings, embellished camel hide footwear, sophisticated fabric and drapery, gems, beads, brassware, metal crafts, and silk and wool fabrics. Finally, on the drive back to your hotel, you will pass by famous historical landmarks such as the India Gate (a war memorial), Rashtrapati Bhawan (President’s Residence) and the UNESCO World-Heritage Site of Humayun’s Tomb. You will also get a complimentary souvenir. Ladies will experience the art of henna tattooing (mehndi), while men will get the chance to wear a turban.
