A holy arc spreads out north of Lisbon – and spread along it are some of Portugal's most sacred sites. This full day excursion takes you to the medieval town of Obidos, the Marian legend town of Nazare, Batalha monastery and the Sanctuary of Fatima.
Your spiritual journey starts in Obidos. Enjoy free time to explore its labyrinthine streets and even try the local tipple – ginjinha – a cherry liqueur served in a chocolate cup, which you can then eat. Next up is the fishing village of Nazare, known for its giant waves as well as the legend of the Black Madonna, which is housed in a richly decorated church.
Then it's on to Batalha for a guided tour of its lavish Gothic monastery, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The intricacy of the stonework is amazing. Lunch is in Batalha. In the afternoon, we'll head to the Sanctuary of Fatima. It was built to commemorate the apparition of the Virgin Mary in 1917.
