A chance to see the ‘other Andalusia' in the highlands of the Sierra Nevada. You'll drive past rocky outcrops, olive groves, almond and cork trees and cultivated farmland with stops in Puerto La Ragua and Guadix, where you'll visit one of its famous cave homes.
At Puerto La Ragua, there'll be a stop and a short walk through the pine trees, in a peaceful nature reserve. Here, you'll be offered a small picnic of Spanish wine, crisps and olives. Then in the foothills, head past shark fin-shaped peaks to Guadix – it's the picture of a fantastical town that's jumped out of the pages of The Hobbit.
You'll notice chimneys sprouting from the hills and mysterious whitewashed doorways leading into the mountainsides – and get to see inside one of these unusual cave dweller's homes. You'll also get a feel for the traditional lives of the locals when you stop at an earthenware shop – see hand-painted ceramics and watch a pottery-making demonstration.
