Scopri un tesoro di architettura gotica costruito in sette anni: la Sainte Chapelle nel Palais de la Cité!

Consacrata il 26 Aprile 1248, la Sainte-Chapelle è considerata tra i maggiori esempi del periodo Rayonnant dell'architettura gotica. Fu commissionata da Re Luigi IX di Francia per ospitare la sua collezione di reliquie Cristiane, inclusa la corona di spine di Cristo acquisita da San Louis.

Insieme alla Conciergerie, la Sainte-Chapelle è uno dei più antichi edifici Capetingi della Île de la Cité. Nonostante sia stata danneggiata durante la Rivoluzione Francese, fu restaurata nel XIX secolo, e conserva la più grande collezione di vetrate del XIII secolo.

Disposte su 15 finestre, ognuna alta 15 metri, le vetrate rappresentano 1,113 scene dal Vecchio e Nuovo Testamento, raccontando la storia del mondo fino all'arrivo delle reliquie a Parigi.
